Do cardboard, carton and corrugated mean the same thing?

In day-to-day Indian usage, yes. A shopkeeper, a warehouse team and a D2C founder will all point at the same brown shipping box and call it a cardboard box, a carton, or a corrugated box on the same afternoon. The words are used interchangeably, and nobody is wrong on the shop floor. The confusion only matters when you place an order, because the supplier needs to know the exact board, not the everyday word.

A carton is more specific but still splits two ways. A folding carton is the light paperboard box you see in retail, the kind that holds a tube of cream or a phone on a shelf. It is a single flat sheet, printed and creased, with no fluting. A shipping carton, by contrast, is usually corrugated, and that is the heavy brown box that travels. So carton can mean the light retail box or the strong shipping box, and only the use tells you which.

Corrugated is the precise one. It names a specific construction: one or more wavy fluted layers glued between flat liner sheets.
