Why the courier decides your box size
Indian couriers bill the greater of the actual weight and the volumetric weight. Volumetric weight uses the divisor 5000: take length times width times height in centimetres and divide by 5000. A light product in an oversized box gets charged on the box, not the product.
Volumetric kg equals L times W times H in cm, divided by 5000. Couriers bill the greater of that and the actual weight.
This is why an oversized carton costs twice: it invites crush damage in transit and it inflates the billed weight on every single parcel. A box cut to the product fixes both at once.
