Packaging Industry October 2026: Expos and Price Watch

In short

October 2026 brings India's largest corrugated packaging show, IndiaCorr Expo in Mumbai on 14 to 16 October, alongside Tokyo Pack and PACK EXPO International in Chicago. On prices, the key question is whether the September kraft and containerboard hikes hold. On policy, plastic packaging's recycled-content targets keep pushing brands to review their packaging choices.

Expo calendar, October 2026

October is the busiest month of the year for packaging events, in India and abroad. Here is the shortlist worth a buyer's or converter's attention, with dates as published by the organisers.

What to look for at IndiaCorr Expo

IndiaCorr Expo describes itself as India's largest exhibition on corrugated packaging, and it runs at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NESCO, in Goregaon, Mumbai, on 14 to 16 October 2026. It is organised by RX. For a buyer or a converter, the value is in what the floor tells you about where cost and capability are heading, so a few general pointers are worth carrying in.

  • Automation in corrugation and converting, since labour and consistency both improve when steps are automated.
  • Digital and flexo printing on corrugated, which decides how short a print run can be before it stops paying.
  • Testing and quality equipment, because a box that passes bursting and edge-crush tests is the box that survives the trip.

Walk the floor with your own specs in hand, and ask how a machine or process changes cost at your real order sizes, not at a demo size.

Price signals to track in October

September brought sharp moves in paper. October is where you find out how much of it holds. These are the signals we are watching, each with the source that reported it.

  • Further kraft increases after September. See our monthly ledger for the working rate band and the trend, each figure with its source and date.
  • Whether the announced increases spread to other regions. SICBMA members announced a 20 percent carton rise and OPA a 15 to 20 percent move; the question is how widely that carries.
  • Mill credit terms cut toward 7 days, reported by KNN India on 28 September, which strains working capital for small box makers.
  • In North America, whether the September containerboard hikes of USD 80 to 140 per ton are recognised in the monthly price reports.

Policy to track

Two policy threads matter to a packaging buyer this month, one on tax and one on plastic.

On tax, associations point to an inverted duty structure, where GST on paper sits above the 5 percent charged on finished boxes, which squeezes converters. The mill credit squeeze to about 7 days sits alongside it. We covered the GST detail separately.

On plastic, Packaging Insights reported on 15 April 2026 that India's amended plastic waste rules step up recycled-content targets for rigid plastic packaging, from 30 percent in 2025 to 2026 to 40 percent in 2026 to 2027, then 50 percent in 2027 to 2028 and 60 percent from 2028, with exemptions for food and pharma where recycled content is legally restricted. The change is an amendment notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Our view: as recycled-content targets on plastic packaging climb, brands may evaluate corrugated alternatives for the parts of their packaging where a fibre-based box does the job. That is a judgement, not a fact from the source.

What this means for your box price, and a buyer checklist for October

October runs into the festive and Q4 volume peak, and it does so while paper is dear and credit is tight. That combination rewards planning. Here is the short checklist we would use as a buyer this month.

  • Confirm quotes before your festive and Q4 volumes, since rates are moving and a quote today is not a quote next week.
  • Right-size the box and choose ply by real load, so you are not paying for board and air you do not ship.
  • Plan your runs to use larger quantity breaks, which spread setup and earn a better per-box rate.
  • Reuse your die on repeat orders, so tooling is paid once and not again.

If you want a current number for your exact spec, send it on WhatsApp or price it on the live calculator, and a person confirms the figure usually in minutes, always within 24 hours. Estimates are shown as bands and reflect the paper rate on the day, so treat the calculator output as a starting point, not a final quote.
